New affordable housing projects to benefit Aboriginal families across Alberta

Low-income Aboriginal families will benefit from the development of 179 new affordable housing units in 16 communities across Alberta. The over $16 million funding injection will also cover needed repairs to 85 existing affordable housing units located in northern Alberta.

These projects are from year two of a three-year, $48 million Off-Reserve Aboriginal Housing Program that the Alberta government is delivering on behalf of the federal government. Under the program, the province allocates funding to priority affordable housing projects.

Alberta celebrates success in apprenticeship and industry training

Alberta’s top apprentices, employers and instructors will be recognized at the 11th annual Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board Awards in Edmonton on February 8.

“Alberta’s apprenticeship and industry training system is world-class. Our strategic partnerships with industry and post-secondary institutions create great opportunities for Albertans and help meet employers’ needs,” said Advanced Education and Technology Minister Doug Horner. “Those honoured by these awards are at the front of a very impressive pack of professionals.”

Government increases AISH rates and supports employment

AISH benefits will increase for the second time in a year, and interested clients are able to access employment supports.

“This increase in benefits is one more step towards helping people in our province who need it the most, with the hope of positively affecting their quality of life,” said Premier Ed Stelmach.
